This is used in two
versions:
- the plain one (as shown in the illustration above)
- with a white circle in the centre of which is the BDF badge
The dimensions of the stripes are the same as for the national flag.

I was recently in Botswana
and noticed a flag painted on a Botswana Air Defence Force helicopter at Maun airport. I have enclosed a image depicting the flag to the best of
my recollection with regard to colour. Its geometry is identical to the
national flag with outer bands of green and a centre band of
red edged with white.

Three stripes: red, yellow
and red. The colours are very similar to Spanish flag, as are the proportions.
I have no information about the coat of arms in the centre, painted in black
and white. Sorry I can not describe it, because in Botswana the wind is very
weak and you must wait for a while if you want see the complete flag. (The
photo was of one of the best moments that I got).

Here is an image of the
Botswana Police flag for the FOTW website.
Håvard Haugnes, 17 Jan 2004
I think that the image sent
by Håvard Haugnes as being the Botswana Police flag is in fact the Botswana
Prisons Service flag. The Botswana Police badge has a lion's head surrounded by
a wreath with the motto "Botswana Police" underneath.
I suspect the "BPS"
badge on the image sent by Håvard refers to the Botswana Prisons Service. The
colours are also incorrect.
Bruce Berry, 20 Jan 2004
The image of the Botswana
Police flag by Håvard Haugnes on 17 January is incorrect. As I indicated in my
initial follow-up message on 20 January, the Botswana Police badge is a lion's
head surrounded by a wreath with the motto "Botswana Police"
underneath. This I have confirmed in
Michel Lupant's book, "Drapeaux et Insignes de Police dans le monde",
1993 (Fig. 64 on page 41).
I have a line drawing made
following the sighting of such a flag on a visit to Botswana as having this
badge in the centre of a flag which consists of three equal horizontal stripes
of maroon, gold and maroon (and not the Spanish orange, yellow and orange!). Lupant (Fig. 181, p119) also illustrates the
Botswana Prisons Flag (based on information from an actual flag in my
collection) which consists of three vertical stripes of green, white and green
with the Botswana Prisons badge in the centre. The badge (BPS surrounded by a
wreath) on this flag is remarkably similar to that which Håvard Haugnes shows
on his image.
